Kaha Sciences: A new beginning…
Whilst the company Kaha Sciences Ltd is newly established (2017), its products and a number of its staff have been working with the telemetry technology, products and customers for over a decade. Telemetry Research (TR), in 2004, was the spin-out company from the University of Auckland that first commercialised the wireless power and telemetry technology for animal research use. In 2008, TR and Millar, a Houston based manufacturer of Mikro-Tip solid-state pressure sensors, began a collaboration to be the first company to develop a product that used the Millar sensors for long-term pressure measurements in research. In 2012, Millar purchased TR, adding the telemetry range of products and technologies to its Life Science cardiovascular research portfolio. In 2017, Millar decided to focus on continued innovation, development and support in the medical/clinical device market, providing the opportunity for the telemetry business and ownership to return to New Zealand.
In New Zealand’s indigenous language, Te Reo Maori,”Kaha” means to be strong, able, capable, courageous, intense, energetic, all qualities that we believe symbolize our confidence in the telemetry system and the contribution it makes to our customers’ scientific advancements.
As well as a return of ownership, a number of key staff, with a diversity of experiences in business, application, customer support and quality, have joined the Kaha Sciences family. Dr. Joe Simonetta has returned as CEO of the company and is joined by Natalia Lopez as Chief Operations Officer and Dr. Sarah-Jane Guild as Chief Scientific Officer. The three ‘amigos’ between them have over 35 years in scientific research and education as well as over 30 years in the Biotech industry with roles in R&D, support, sales and marketing, partnerships, manufacturing and quality.
For customers and business partners, the transition of the telemetry business to Kaha Sciences will be seamless with continued and proven support in supplying the latest and the best telemetry solutions to existing and new customer applications.
Joe, Natalia, Sarah-Jane and the rest of the team at Kaha Sciences look forward to providing the high quality product, scientific support, advice and training that our customers have come to expect.
